My Monday Inspiration..Thanks to the Mailman

Good evening everyone.  Hoping all my prim friends along the path of Hurricane Sandy are safe.  You are all in my prayers.

We have had some strong winds here and have lost cable for awhile, but thankfully that is all.  Thanks to Sandy, our temps have gotten more seasonal and we were in the 30's this morning..  But I love cold weather so I won't be complaining.  After church service last night Mr. P. built our first fire in the fireplace.  Oh,,, I always can't wait for the first one but am so eager at the end of winter to be  through with all the mess.  Holly loves them to but wasn't here to enjoy it as usual.  So Holly, this picture is for you.

Oh!! I have some exciting news for you too.  Mr. P. bought me a new car on Friday.  I didn't even drive it until Saturday afternoon and it was too dark to get a picture when I got home.  Yesterday I went out to take one, {well I actually thought I did take one to share with you} but the card was not in my camera.  Didn't find that out until I started to do this post .  So will share a photo with you later.  At least I can put my "broom" away  and not have to ride it anymore.

Which brings me to today and my plans.  I was going to town and meet Holly and we were going roaming in my new ride.  But, I was lazy early as it was cold and the fireplace was radiating nothing but cozy in the great room so I lingered in my flannels.  Before I knew it the mailman had left a package at my door.

Woo Hoo, it was my giveaway win from the wonderful giveaway hosted by Brenda at The Rusty Thimble.  I  couldn't wait to open it up.

I won this wonderful sign from Robin. Her blog is The Primitive Hutch.  Thank you Robin,, I love it. That was not all the mailman left for me.  I had the Winter/Holiday Issue Of the Primitive Place Magazine.

Yes, all the goodies from Mr. Mailman changed my plans for the afternoon.  Just too much Christmas at one time.  So what did I do?  I got busy and took down all my fall decor and the crates are ready to go in storage.  I have to clean and dust really good and you can guess what will be showing up in the great room before the week is out.

Now spare me all the comments that I should wait until after Thanksgiving.  I always start the first of November anyway.  And I did leave the Halloween and Fall on the porch and carport.  But in our area we have no trick or treaters and on Thanksgiving we go out for lunch or dinner.  SO..... I am so ready to start my Christmas decorating. And I have another really special reason this year.  Our Friends from TN. are coming soon to visit.  I won't get to see them over the holidays so...... What does one do?  Have a pretend holiday a little early.  Now I am just hoping the weather will cooperate.!!

After a busy afternoon and the supper dishes were done, I snuggled in with my magazine and hearing the hummm of the blowers on the fireplace.  Yes, today was a wonderful day.  There Is No Place Like Home.

Please keep all our friends in the path of Sandy in your prayers.  Please stay safe wherever you may be.
Until next time.

In Love With my Handyman//Mr.P.

Good afternoon everyone.  Hoping to find all of you enjoying your week thus far.  Things have finally calmed down a little here at the home place.  I so love this time of the year.  Yes, I love fall and all its splendor, but there is another reason I love this time of the year.  Mr. P. works from April until September in the workshop creating for the fall show we do in September.  Other than keeping up the home place, his time is spent out there.  So..... I just make a list of all the things I want done for me and this time of the year, he tries hard to make me happy!!

I have wanted a blanket crane for a while now so that was one of the first things on my list. I was so tickled when he brought it in the other evening.

I haven't been satisfied with the wall behind the sofa for a while.  It was full of photos and a vinyl saying.  So... what did my dear handyman do?  Before hanging the blanket crane, he removed everything, patched nail holes and painted the wall for me.

Another item on my list was a cupboard to go on this same wall.   Here is a sneak peek .  Of course I had to decorate if for the holiday.

A cute little doll holding a little ear of Indian Corn.  This doll was a gift from Shirlee.  Her blog is Farmhouse Ponderings.  She does wonderful cross stitch and I am sure she would love for you to visit her there.

Love this rusty little truck.  One of my favorite things.

.

Don't you think Mr. P did a great job?  Yes this is just what I wanted.  But that wasn't all.  One more thing for that wall

A thermostat cover..  Finally I don't have to look at that ugly plastic cover.  Thank you so much Mr. P

Last Wednesday our Ladies' WMU from our church took a road trip and went to a neighboring town to eat lunch at the Green Manor.  It was a beautiful old home / restaurant.

The food was delicious and we all had a wonderful time.  Afterward I went looking for a car.  If any of you are waiting for me to drive up in your yard and pay you a visit,,,,, well I am afraid it might be a while.  I still do not have a ride.  Thank goodness for Holly!!! Hoping to get a car soon.

Well it's about time for supper and for the Mister to be home from work.  Gota show him what's on my list today.  {smile}.  I am so thankful for such a good and talented husband.  Anybody want to borrow my handyman??

Hope you have a great evening,,, Until next time.

Welcome Wednesday,,, A Wonderful Fall Day

Good morning everyone.  The sun is shining brightly here in the South and a nip in the air reminds me that fall is upon us and winter will surely be following close behind.  The coffee is on and I have fresh pound cake if you would like a slice.  There is also O.J. or Cider if you prefer.

Thought I would share the kitchen and bath all decked out for the season.  This will be my last fall decorating pictures as I am so anxiously waiting for NOV. 1 so that I can begin my Christmas decorating.  Yep, I get started early but I so love this season and I like to get things done so that I can enjoy every minute of the holidays.

So, get comfy and I hope you enjoy your visit at our home place. As you enter through the back door, you are greeted by Miss Maggie.  If you have followed awhile you will remember meeting this wonderful woman in a former post as she kept me company in the craft room.  She wanted to get all dressed up and make her appearance downstairs for the holiday.

The next few are just random photos around the kitchen.

This is the little table in the hallway.

The door to the right of the hall is the bath downstairs.  Guest use this bath when they visit so I always do a little decorating in the bath.  Do you decorate in your bathroom too?  After all it is a room.

Display on the back of the commode

Witch dress on the wall

On the vanity.

Well there you go folks.  I hope you enjoyed your visit as much as I have enjoyed having you stop by. Hope you have a great "hump" day.  Got something fun planned?  I am out the door soon to meet our WMU group of ladies from church for lunch .  Got to hitch a ride as I still DON"T have my ride.  The doctor mechanic has advised us to purchase a new car as ours is getting a little old so the mister is debating what to do.  Until then,,,, I am stranded.  Well, not really as Holly lives close but I so hate not having my own car.  Maybe soon.

Until next time.

Making Memories On A Beautiful Weekend

Good evening friends.  Hoping you are all enjoying a beautiful fall weekend.  The weather here in Ga. has been so beautiful these last few days.  I just couldn't wait to share with you what I have been up to these last two days.  I know some of you follow Holly's Blog so if you do, you already know we were having Darbee Rae's 5th birthday party today.

Well the celebrating started yesterday for her family and for this Nana and Papa. Our son-in-law was able to get his company's cabin for the weekend.  So Mr. P and I spent the night there with  our little family last night.  Oh my ,, what fun we had.  We even had company last night as a close friend stopped by who was not going to be able to attend the party today.  She brought cupcakes and  a gift for Darbee Rae, so we just had a little party of our own.

Woke this morning and looked out and saw the first sign of fall.

Don't you just love to wake to the smell of bacon and biscuits  and coffee of course.  Then,,, all we heard from Darbee Rae was to go fishing.  So my girlie girl and Papa headed down to the lake.

Look at the seat of those jeans.  Don't think I have ever seen her that dirty.  Love it!!

What a memory this will be for her one day.  My favorite photo.

While they were enjoying their morning at the lake, Holly and I were getting ready for the party.  The pavilion was just perfect for a "Hoe Down Party"

These planters of beautiful mums was across the entrance to the pavilion.

Holly and I were quite proud of ourselves.  We built a fire without the help of our men.  Oh and it smelled sooo good.

\

The table for the little ones.
The kids loved sitting on the bales of hay too.

Now bring on the food!!

Hot dog individually wrapped.

Potato chips in little brown stamped bags served in Darbee Rae's wheelbarrow.

Salsa and chips in an old scale pan

Fall party mix in an old coke crate

Cupcakes served from burlap.

Adult sodas were served in mason jars, and juice for the kids.

There was even a place to deposit the empty mason jars.

Remember the picture of Darbee Rae and Papa riding down the hill in the wagon?  Well this wagon was doing double duty today.  And it is a very special wagon.  It belonged to Holly when she was younger than Darbee Rae.

Yes, today brought back so many memories of all the parties I tried so hard to make special for my own little red headed Holly  years ago.  It made my heart swell with pride to see what a good Mother my own daughter has become.  She in turn wants to make each day special for her one and only little red head also. Holly I am so proud of you and the woman you have become.  A mother could not ask for more.  Thank you my dear daughter.

I could go on and on but I know Holly has so many more photos she will share of Darbee Rae and her friends.  The games were so cute and the goodie bags were precious.  You will have to visit her on her blog when she stops playing with all the goodies Darbee Rae received today and makes a post.

Tonight I am so thankful God saw it in his plans to give us a wonderful little family .  We are blessed beyond measure.  Memories are made daily just by being with those we love.  Hope you are all making good memories this weekend.  Remember tomorrow is the Sabbath Day.  Pause and give thanks for all your blessings.

Until next time.

It Has Been A Perfect P.J. Day

Yes, for real.  A perfect p.j. day for this lucky lady.  Where can you go in your p.j.'s early in the morning and feel right at home and comfy??? To your daughter's of course.  And that is just what I did in the early morning hours this Wednesday.  Why?? Well,, the reason is not such a good one.  No, they were fine, no one sick , well not a person.  But my poor Saturn VUE is very sick.  It has to go to the hospital mechanic for a lengthy stay. Got to have it's transmission replaced.  Yikes!! Not much prim shopping in my future for awhile. Oh  but I miss my ride .  You all know how Holly and I love to go.  So..... that is why I got out so early this morning.  MR. P. delivered me to Holly's door before daylight on his was to work this morning.  I have to admit it has been quite a while since I have seen this time of the day.  Fog was so heavy, you could barely see.  I even commented I didn't know what our neighborhood looked like this early in the morning.  Was a nice ride in with the mister. .

Got to be at Holly's when Darbee Rae woke and got her gift from the tooth fairy for the first time. Saw her off to school. Got some good loving in too.  Holly brought us back a biscuit and we sat leisurely and chatted while she drank Coke and I had my coffee.  We looked on our computers, and then I got busy stitching and she made the goodie bags for Darbee Rae's "Country Hoedown" Birthday party this weekend.  I think they turned out too cute, don't you?  Hobo bags will go with the theme just perfect.

Still in my p.j.'s we had this for lunch after Darbee was home from school.

After helping Darbee Rae with her homework, and playing "school" for a bit, we are settled down again in front of this

.

Are you envious of my day yet??  Yes it has been so nice, and I have been spoiled. Mr. P is coming by after work and she has prepared supper for us.  The house smells so yummy. We are having homemade chicken pot pie.

Then we are all off to watch Darbee Rae play T-ball.   I will exchange my P.J.'s for clothes before we head out the door. {smile} Yes, it has been a fun filled day.  In fact October has been such a busy and fun month so far.  On the 4th  we celebrated my birthday and the birthday of Kathy's youngest son.  He turned 21!!!  Tyler is 9 years younger than Holly but we took him on many trips with us to the Casinos when he and Holly were too young to go inside.  They kept each other company in the game rooms.  Since he was a wee boy, I had promised on his 21st birthday to go to the Casino.
We all had saved just a little tad of money to go have fun.  Took us longer to drive to the neighboring state to the Casino than we were there.  Those machines took our money in no time.  Did they not know it was our birthday and could have been kind to us??

We left and had a wonderful dinner at Country's BBQ where we had a great time and the food was delicious.

Happy Birthday yet again Tyler.  You have come a long way since entering this world weighing in at 1 pound.  We love you!!

Holly and family came out when we got home and brought presents.  Of course Darbee Rae was so excited.  She loves making a big deal on everyone's birthday.  She had drawn me a cake at school and said she spread chocolate icing on it and added candles.

Then she hands me another picture.  She said it was a picture of me and one of her.

She of course had the pigtails.  She informed me I had black hair and she added  a little silver on each side.!!!!!  Guess she was telling me it was past time for a color job, huh?

Here at the homeplace we have been preparing for winter.  Mr. P has been cutting and splitting wood.  This year he has a good helper.

We haven't had our first fire yet, but don't think it will be long.  We have plenty of seasoned wood just waiting for those cold winter days.

And what better way to welcome cool weather and fall than with a Carmel Cake.  This has become a favorite of mine.  Love this never failing recipe.  Betty at Through my Back Door shared it with me a long time ago.  She posted the recipe of her last post on her blog.  http://bettyjcrowe-throughmybackdoor.blogspot.com/  Stop by and check out the recipe.  You won't be sorry.

Well my friends this has been scattered, but now you know what has been going on in and around the homeplace.  I know you were suppose to visit me in the kitchen and I promise next post we will.  Until the VUE gets out of the car hospital , I will not be on schedule.  If someone comes by and honks the horn, out the door I will be.  So until next time, take some time for yourself.  Hope you can enjoy a P.J. day with someone you love soon.

Fall In The Great Room

Hello Prim Friends.  Hoping you all had a great day.  Today here at the homeplace was just perfect.  Holly invited me up for a yummy breakfast treat she had prepared and we spent some Mama and Daughter time together before Darbee Rae was home from school.  What better way to spend the morning.  And the weather was cool, windy, and cloudy.  Perfect  for a soft glow of candle lights and the smell of fall tarts burning.  Guess today put me in the mood to share a few fall photos with you.

Welcome to the great room.  If you come in from the front,,, this is your view

If you choose to come in from the back door as most folks do,,, you will walk into the great room with this view

Okay,,, I have said enough.  Just make yourself comfy, and take a look around.

Got this trencher on our trip to Ohio.

Hope you enjoyed your visit to the great room.  We will visit the kitchen next time.  Maybe I will have time to bake us a fall treat.  What would you like?  Muffins,  sweet bread, cookies, or maybe a cake?  Will be so much fun to sit around the table and chat away on a cool fall day here in the South.

Take care my friends until we meet again.
