Christmas Is Coming

Happy Friday everyone.  Hope you are all winding down the decorating and almost finished with your baking and are ready to enjoy the final countdown to Christmas Day.  Thought I would share the rest of the pictures of the great room with you today.  So... take a minute to rest and come on in and lets chat while we look. 

Thought this saying was perfect to write on the chalkborad frame to go over the piano.  Why don't I play us a tune and we can join in with the carolers and sing. Everyone knows  "Silent Night".  Will that be okay?

This is a very old song book under the cloche . Found it at an estate sale back in the summer.

It's a tradition to buy Darbee Rae a book every year during the Holiday Season.  This year this is what She got.  " A Special Place for Santa" by Jeanne Pieper  The little snow globe goes along with the book.  Such a sweet story that combine the birth of Jesus and Santa Claus.  Perfect read for a little one.  

And who doesn't love watching a snow globe..... Especially one that changes colors?

The Gift of the Magi was Holly's favorite when she was small, and continues with Darbee Rae.  She knows the special book by heart.  She tells me the story now.   Such wonderful memories.

The traditional Santa Claus tree.  I had planned on just decorating the german twig tree beside the fireplace, but once that was done, it just didn't seem right without the big tree that always has been in the living room.  So,,, what do you do?  Get busy and put it up.   Now it seems like Christmas in the great room.

This ends the tour of the great room.  I sure have enjoyed your visiting with me in this room.  What other room would be as inviting.... the kitchen with all the smells of holiday baking.  Yep, we will go there the next time you visit. 

Darbee Rae and I went "Mommy and Daddy" shopping yesterday.  We had lunch at the pizza parlor and got busy.  Why are Mommys so much easier to shop for than Daddys?  Mommy is out of the way,,, but daddy will have to be another day.  Just couldn't make up her mind.  I think she was in to much of a hurry to come home to Nana's and see if Wilbur knew she was coming.

He sure did.  She came running in to go to the the bathroom and I heard her scream.  She came running back to the door and said, " Nana just come look at what Wilbur did."  Too funny! This is what we found

Wilbur had my basket of nail polish out and had picked him out a color.  Silly elf.  Does he not know elves don't wear nail polish?  Guess he just wanted to be different.  This is the surprise he left for Darbee Rae.

Lots of her very own nail polish.  Glad that was going home with her and her Mommy!!  Holly and Stacy came in the evening and brought supper so this tired and happy Nana did not have to cook.  A  great ending to a perfect day.

Come On In and Let's Visit

Wow, It has been awhile since I have posted.  Yes, the closer it gets to the big day the futher behind I seem to get.  But I am happy to report I am seeing a light at the end of the tunnel.  Shopping is done, baking is almost finished and I am enjoying the season .  Hope all of you can say the same.

There is nothing I would enjoy more than to have each and eveyone of my faithful followers to come to the homeplace for a big blogger Christmas Party.  But I know that is not possible.  So the next best thing is to have you visit thru the web. So get comfy and come along for a long visit to my great room.

Since most of you have been following along with me for almost a year already, let me welcome you in the back door.  All my friends come to the back instead of the front door.  So come on in.  I would take your coat at this point but you don't need  one here in the South today.  The temps are going to be near 70.  Maybe we should turn on the air and build a fire in the fireplace so that it will seem more like Christmas. (lol) The above picture is the view into the great room from the kitchen.

This is my new Greman Twig Tree beside the fireplace.  I am so loving it.  Had fun hunting ornaments for it.

Picture of german twig with the flash on.    Okay that is enough Christmas today.  I will continue our visit in the great room tomorrow.    On Saturday Darbee Rae came to visit.  She immediately began a search to find Wilbur and see what he was up to. 

He was in the sunroom in one of my plants,,,, digging.  Bad boy Wilbur.  But he brought Darbee Rae a neat gift.

Darbee Rae was excited  and her and Papa got busy and planted the seed.  Should be a head full of grass hair just in time for Chirstmas. 

Yesterday afternoon I had a package when Mr. P. brought in the mail.  It was from Trace at http://www.grannytracescrapsandsquares.com/ .I was so excited to find this cute woolie angel and this pretty card.  Trace is such a sweet person and her heart is so full of joy.  Brightens my day to visit her every morning while having my morning coffee..  Stop by and say Hi to Trace and her feathered friends. Thank you Tracie .  I love my angel.  

Last night I went with Holly and Darbee Rae to dance.  The girls did a little presentation for the parents and grandparents and had a little party.  It was the first time I had seen Darbee Rae at dance.  They were so cute and it was a fun evening. 

Okay all my friends.  I have kept you long enough.  Hope you all enjoyed our visit.  I know I enjoyed having you.  Let's do this again.  Are you busy tomorrow?  Today I am picking up Darbee Rae at daycare  and we are going to lunch and then shopping.  It is our annual "shop for mommy and daddy" shopping trip.  Should be tons of fun.  Hope all of you have a fun filled day ahead of you.  Take care and will look forward to our visit tomorrow.   Until then......

Visits From The Prim Christmas Elves

. Hi everyone.  Hoping you have all had a great week and are looking forward to Friday and another weekend almost upon us.  Everyone seems busy with holiday baking, shopping and decorating and I am no different.  But ,,I am so enjoying the Season. 

Most of us know that Robin ( The Cranky Crow) is one of the luckiest ladies in blogland... always seems to win giveaways.  Yea, Miss Robin , Nana is talking about you. (smile).  Well, I really think she has talked to Santa's elves and decided to share her luck with little old me way down here in the South.  I have been so honored this month to win THREE giveaways . The first to arrive was from Sue   http://wickedfaeriequeen.blogspot.com/   I won 2 felt Christmas Stockings that are adorable and she also surprised me with pennie rug ornaments and a red slipper ornament. 

Oops, I forgot the red slipper.  It sneaked off upstairs and found a spot on the tree in the guest bedrroom already.  You will see it when I post my Christmas pictures.  Thanks Sue, I love everything. Sue just lost her furry friend of many, many years and her heart is sad.  I am sure it would do her proud if you stopped by and let her know she was in our thoughts.

Another little elf delivered a sweet package from Brenda at  http://therustythimble.blogspot.com/. I was one of the lucky winners of her November giveaway. It was a surprise ornament giveaway and I was beyond surprised when the package arrived. 

This little snowman is so cute . He has a pocket full of greens and a prim candy cane. 

Don't you just love this little stocking with the star faced snowman ?  He is now the tree topper for my Snowman tree.

And this little fellow has the cutest smile.  You will just have to wait and see where he ends up.  These 3 cute little fellows convienced me they did not want to be hidden upstairs in the guest room where I had the snowman theme going so....... being the nice lady I am and wanting all my new residences to fill right at home, I took a full day and switched out the bedding, tree, and all the decor from upstainrs to downstairs.  And the red bird tree in the bedroom downstairs was taken upstairs.  Thank goodness the red birds didn't seem to mind.  Guess if they don't like the guest room upstairs  they will just fly away. (giggle)  Thanks so much Brenda for the wonderful snowmen and their friendly personalities.   If you are not familiar with Brenda and her incrediable work, then go on over and visit.  You will not be disappointed.

Today was a day in which I was dreading. I had to go back to the funeral home and pick up Mother's death certificate and settle with them.  The last of her business that had to be taken care of.  As I drove by the mailbox , I had a package from Traci, http://yorkmountainprimitives.blogspot.com/   I continued on with the task at hand and when I got back in the car, I tore into the package.  Traci is hosting a 12 days of Giving over at her blog and I was the winner of Day 2.  It was a surprise and I was so excited to see what I had won.

Just look at this candle mat.  Don't you all just wish you had one?  I was so excited . It will be right at home anywhere I decide to use it.  Right now it sits on the stove board.

Also there was a large bundle of prim perfect candy canes.  I knew right away where I needed those.

They will go perfect with the wooden plate with the painting of candy canes .   Thank you Traci for bringing some happiness in an otherwise depressing day.  Go over and visit Traci.  She has been showing pictures of her home decorated for the holidays.  It will put anyone in the Christmas mood.

So....... Robin, if you did decide to share your luck with me, thank you.  If not, Santa thank you for sending some little elves my way.  Sure did make for a fun week.  I am humbled by all your generosity.

Christmas Parade,,, A Family Tradition

Well another  week has come and gone and tonight I am wondering where did all those hours go.  Did I get a lot done you might ask. Well I like to think I did but sitting here recalling day by day... I ask myself did I get ENOUGH done.  I am completely finished with my Christmas shopping.  That is a major task done and every gift is waiting on its wrappings.  Tomorrow maybe. Most of my decorating is done.  One more tree to finish and I will share my photos with you.

On Tuesday I picked Darbee Rae up from preschool as Holly had a teacher meeting.  Remember in my last post I introduced you to Wilbur the elf Santa had left to watch Darbee Rae at Nana's.  Well when we came in from town , this is where we found him.

That silly elf had climbed up on my display and was putting a princess tiara on my prim doll.  Santa definitely did not teach him how to decorate in the primitive style, huh?  Darbee Rae was thrilled with her light up tiara and the fact that Wilbur knew she was going to be coming in with Nana.  Smart elf, huh?

Today was a busy and fun day.  The day for our town's Christmas Parade.  It has been a family tradition to go to the parade every year since the beginning of this activity.  When Holly was small she was on floats for Little league ball and with the 4-H Shooting Team a number of years.  We have stood with snowflakes falling, a  fine mist of rain, battled the wind and cold, whatever weather we were dealt, we were faithful watchers. The last few years have been different as we now have Darbee Rae and she has grown to love it as much as her Mother and myself before her.  Thought you might like to see a few pictures . This is a tradition, having her picture made with Papa.  Usually they are bundled up but today the weather was in the 60's.  Just perfect for a parade, but not so much for Christmas weather. This photo makes me sad.  Darbee Rae is growning so fast and soon this pose will become a thing of the past.

And he spotted her and waved directly to her.  Yep, another tradition comes and goes and this is one happy Nana. 

After the parade, we rushed home, got our food and headed back to church for our annual Christmas Supper.  Lots of good old southern cooking and wonderful fellowship.  The end to a perfect Lord's Day , one in which I feel so blessed with family and friends.
