Yes, I DO Have something to Blog about!!!

Hello friends, I am so glad  you came to visit with me.. I have something exciting to tell you.  Well, it's exciting for me, maybe not for some of you. {smile}  I was sooo excited last night just anticipating your visit I decided to do some baking so we could have some treats when you stopped by.  You can take your pick of apple dumplings or banana bread squares, and your choice of drink.

This has been a really good week thus far.  Yes, I know it is a holiday week with the fourth being on Friday, but it has been great for me for another reason.  Just bear with me as a babble on and get to the point of my being so happy.  We built our home when we were only 5 years into our marriage.  We were both in our early 20's and we were pinching pennies to have a brand new house.  So,,,, we made some bad mistakes. We had central heat installed but NO air.Well we are not young and foolish anymore, and Mr. P. will be retiring in about 6 years so we have decided to have a new heating and AIR system installed in our home!!!!! Yey,,smiles,,, giggles!!!!  Now those of you who assume that is just a normal thing,, let me tell you, you have never spent a long, hot sticky summer here in the south!! We will celebrate 41 years of marriage later this month and never have we had air conditioning.  Not central air,,, we have however used window units and they have been a life saver.

Okay now that you know why I am so happy,,,, there is always something that puts a damper on the situation, right?  Now, I love company, and Monday morning I was up before daylight anxiously awaiting the guys coming to do the installation.  They arrived and all was well.  It sounded like they were tearing my floor apart, but was sweet music to my ears.  Up in the morning when it became so hot under there they left to cool off for awhile.  It was so quite in the house.  I was sitting on the sofa when I heard a noise similar to something being sanded with sandpaper.  I look over at the hearth where the sound was coming from and couldn't believe my eyes.  I had a visitor that I was not expecting and I was NOT happy to have visit with me.  A HUGE SNAKE!!!  yes,,, crawling behind the fire screen.  We figure they had disturbed him under the house and he found his way in through the ash dump on the outside of the chimney.  The workers had gone already and I was with THAT SNAKE all alone in my house.  I called MR. P. at work and said", Come home now there is a SNAKE in the house"  His reply was , "You got to be kidding"  I would probably have slapped him had he been close.  I said HURRY, and hung up.  I grabbed my purse and was going to leave, but then thought what if it came out into the room?  So I stood behind the sofa with my eyes glued to the hearth until Mr..P. got home.  Luckily he saw him right away and took him out.  Did he kill the snake you are asking?  Well,,, no.  He put it in a bag, and took it off in a wooded area on his way back to work and let it go.  Duh,,,, a good snake is a dead snake  Just look at the unwanted visitor!!

This morning when the man came in to install the thermostat, he was kidding me and asking me to go under the house and remove the cobwebs, and I laughed and told him about the snake.  He is terrified of snakes too!! Bet he worked under the house scared all day long.   Hehe

But just look at this beauty!!!  I am soooo excited. I will sit in our home and be thankful hopefully for many hot southern summers to come for this major purchase we have made.  It has been an awful long time coming..  I am so thankful that we were able to do this. We are so blessed. Now if we can keep it from getting stolen for the copper. That is going on all around our area.

Well I have so enjoyed your visit.. I am staying busy in the craft room, creating fall/Christmas items already for my show in September.  Mr.P. has been working in the shop.  Just look at the old pie safe someone gave him.  I don't have a before photo but it was in need of some TLC, and I love the way it turned out.  Oh how I wish I had more room in my home.

  The garden is coming in and I have been busy with beans.  Just look at all the beans waiting for me to prepare for winter.  At least it will be much nicer in the kitchen this time putting them away now that I have air..{smile}

  Well guess that is all my news this time around.  Hope all of you have a fun filled and safe Fourth of July.  We will talk again soon, I promise.

Unitl next time

  1. How wonderful to finally have air! And kudos for having the grit to live without it for 41 years. I am a nothern girl and although we only use the A/C a few months out of the year, it seems like a necessity! You will love it! What a snake story, too! Yikes!!!!! Have a very happy fourth, Jane

  3. So happy for you! So glad daddy was able to come home and get that snake. Even though you called me and I am close, there was NO WAY I was coming to get it. Hehe. Looking forward to a fun fourth!

  4. Central Air is amazing! Congratulations!!! For the first 52 years of my life I never had central air. My parents did not like air conditioning so I didn't grow up with it. My husband insisted on air conditioner window units and yes, they were wonderful. But seven years ago, we had AC installed and when we turn it on for the first heat spell of the year I bow my head, thanking the Good Lord for making it possible. I hope I never forget how it "used to be".

  6. Oh I wish . We have hot water heat in a 120 yr house of 9 rooms. Not a very easy job to install central air. So we have window units that can freeze you out. Lucky you.

  10. Congratulations on the AC! I grew up in a 1870s farmhouse with no AC, but it was in NJ so only a few months of being overheated. As for the snake..I don't care much for them either, but glad it was released instead of beheaded! Thanks for stopping by my blog. Oh, and the apple dumplings and banana bread squares look awesomely delicious!
