About Me

My photo
I have been married to my childhood sweetheart for 42 wonderful years. I have been blessed with one daughter who is grown and gone! She and her hubby have blessed us with a precious grandchild, Darbee Rae. She is eight years old and the sunshine in our days. I have always been a stay at home maid, cook, doctor, babysitter, taxi, wife, mother, and grandmother. I enjoy crafting. My interests include primitives, vintage and colonial styles. I love decorating my home. I enjoy traveling with my hubby and friends, reading, and trying different recipes. I am a Christian and enjoy activities within my church. I hope you enjoy reading about my daily adventures in crafting, shopping, and enjoying life thru the eyes of my darling grand daughter.

Primitive Candles

Thought I would share with you what I have been working on in the craft room. I found this pattern by Country Friends at the Pattern Hutch in Piegon Forge, Tn.  A few of the things needed to complete this project are below
Yes, I did say I am making candles.  The items it takes to make them is what drew my eye to the pattern.  I found it quite unusual and a challange.
Here are the candles in the beginning stages.  Can you see now where I am going with this?
Now they are beginning to look more primitive.  This is the first step in the grunging process
And here are my grungy primitive candles.
They are so much fun to make.  The smaller ones were not included in the pattern, but I just played around with them,  They are so different and can be used in so many places in your home
Hope you all are having a great weekend. Blessings until we visit again

A Bittersweet Day...Happy Birthday Mother

Today was my Mother's birthday.  She turned 90 years old.  So sad, I don't even think she realized it. Mother has been in a nursing facility for many years now.  She is totally blind, and can not walk.  Her mind was good up until a few months back, and now she is just exsisting.  She would talk today when we talked to her, sometime it made sense and sometimes it didn't.  We had a little party for her. She did eat cake and a few snacks.  It is so sad to watch someone become like a small child right before your eyes. She says she wants the Lord to take her home.  Her health is good, and she is in no pain.  For that I am thankful. But today it got next to me.  I know her time is limited and she's in God's hand.
If you are fortunate to have your Mother, don't wait until a special day to tell her what she means to you. Pick up the phone or pay her a visit and let her know how thankful you are to have her. Time is passing so quickly. Enjoy the good days you have.

Darbee Rae can not comprehend that Nanny Burnham can not see.  See has to entertain her every time we go see her.  Mother has never seen Darbee.  She will feel of her hair.  Darbee usually brings a smile to Mother's face.
This is a picture of Mother, me, my daughter Holly, and my granddaughter Darbee Rae.

Now on to a little something brighter,,,, Got to go back to the house where I got all the goodies in a former post..  We got several pieces of furniture that I will share with you later.  Got lots more goodies.  Loved the old dolls in the trunk.  They were so old and stuffed with straw.
Got lots of old quilt squares. Other than pillows, don't know what I will turn them into.
There were 3 old trunks left and they were full of old reciepts and letters, pictures, etc,.  Really enjoyed  our evening going thru the treasures.
Darbee found a nativity scene hand carved from wood.  She had fun playing with it.
Well that's all for today.  Don't forget to tell your Mom you love her. Time and age can take its toll sometime before we are ready for it to.  Teach your children the value of your treasures, so that when we are gone, they will have something to hold on to and all of your life's material things will be kept in your family and not be thrown away like this old lady's where we visitied.  Hope you all have a blessed and wonderful weekend.

As Long As We Have Memories........

Good Morning Everyone.  Hoping you are having a good Monday, and everyone had a happy weekend.
I was so blessed this past weekend to have a very special couple as house guest.  Dimple and Roger visited us from Tennessee.  Dimple and I have been friends over 23 years.  Many moons ago, they lived in Ga and moved back home to be close to work and family.  We have remained long distant frineds for many years, visiting when we could and talking over the phone.  Our hubbies have been friends also. They arrived on Fri. evening and once inside the back door we were able to pick up where we had left off , and we never shut up. We managed to do a little shopping on Sat., went out to eat Sat. evening, and visited the rest of the evening.
Dimple wants to be grandma so badly, so while she was here we shared Darbee Rae with her.  She has talked to Darbee on the phone and we have talked to Darbee about Dimple from day one of her little life. She came over  to see her and ran and jumped into her lap. She told Dimple while we were shopping on Sat. that we were having a "Dimple Day".  She was so sweet.  Alright Blake and Liz, your mama would make a wonderful Grandma.
Sunday was special.  After church we just hung out and talked recipes, crafts, decorating, and all things we enjoy.
This morning saying goodbye wasn't easy.  It never is saying goodbye to someone you love.  But we promised to go visit them soon.  What a wonderful weekend to spend it with such special friends.
I thought this quote was approiate for today.

As long as we have memories, yesterday remains.

We made lots of memories this weekend.  I am so sorry, I had intended to take pictures.  We were so busy talking and having fun, and being a new blogger I don't think about my camera so much, I forgot.  Hope this week wonderful memories will be made for you.

A Busy Week.... TGIF

Hello everyone, Just wanted to check in and wish all of you a Happy, Fun , Weekend.  This has been a very busy week here at the homeplace.  The weather has been so Spring-like with temp. rising into the low 70's.  Sure was hard to stay in craft room and do crafts.  I did manage to get a few projects completed and will share pictures with you maybe on Monday.
But right now I am so excited and anxiously awaiting house guest for the weekend.  My very best " far away" friend from Tenn.  and her hubby are on their way to visit.  We have been friends since our kids were beginning kindergarten,,,,, they are now 27,and 28 years old. You  can do the math....a long time.  Many years ago they moved back home to Tn. to be close to family and for her hubbys job.  We have remained friends still, talking all the time and  visiting several times a year.  This has been the longest time between visits, haven't seen her since last April.  So.... needless to say I will be busy and having fun this weekend.  Hope all of you have a friend you can spend time with and have a good and blessed weekend.

One Family's Trash....Definitely My Treasure

A while back we got a phone call from a family member who knows how much I love old and primitive things.  His neighbor had passed away, and had no close family. She had never married and only had a few nieces alive.  They had come and gone thru her home and took very few things and told him it looked like all junk and to dispose of it any way he wanted to.  I had met the little old lady in church and it was so sad to enter her home and know that no one wanted things she had treasured all these years. They will have a sale later , and I hope to be one of the first customers, however they shared with us some neat treasures.  Thought I would share them  with you.

I got lots of old doilys. Can't wait to use them in my crafts.
There were hundreds of old photos.  Some like the two on top were so old they were taken on the tin type.  So sad, no one knows who they are.
This was neat to me,, a wedding picture taken in 1905
A baby dress already aged to perfection.
An old sewing machine in need of repair. I see  maybe a table in its future.
An old tub that they used to do laundry in.  Won't this look pretty when Spring does arrive with flowers planted in it?
Loved the old sewing basket.  There was all kinds of goodies stored in it.  The old watch was so neat, and the timy little baby doll.  It's eyes actually open and close.  It is still in its orginial package.
Hope you have enjoyed my treasures.  Wishing warm weather coming your way, and a full filled day of treasure hunting for you.

Life is Good Today

Woke up this morning to a Sunny and cold day.  Dressed in my flannel pjs. and headed to the kitchen  for a much needed cup of coffee. I love coffee mugs and have a large collection.  This is one of my favorites.
Made my way into the living room , added another log to the fire, and got cozy in my favorite spot where I sit and read.  Yes, waiting on the next round of wintery weather to come thru later in the evening, today I have a date.
Yes, got my Spring issue of Primitive Place in the mail yesterday, and can't wait to read it from cover to cover.  Housework can wait, laundry won't get done, and hubby will be lucky if he gets supper.  Yes, life is good today.  Hope you are having a great day, too.

My Love Story

With February being a month  in which we celebrate Love, thought I would share my very own love story with you.  Hope you enjoy it.

Flash back to the year 1966:

I was in the 5th grade in 1966 and my parents let me have a Valentine Party.  I  was to invite the  kids that I attended church with. A sweet little boy gave me this valentine and stole my heart. I have kept it all these years.
Fast forward to May 1972

The same little boy,now a young man, left this poem for me on the dashboard of his car.  To shy to say these words out loud.  I kept the poem all these years, and memorized it in my mind.

Present Day

Do I believe in Love at first sight?  That same little boy became my one and only boyfriend and 37 years ago in July 1973 became my husband.  Mr. P. I loved you then and love you still.  I decided after all this time to do my poem in a stitchery to share with all of you and for my daughter and granddaughter to have as a symbol of our love together.
If you are fortunate to have a soul mate, take time to give thanks for the gift of love.  Hope love surrounds you today and all the days to come

An Ordinary Day

While so many of my blogging friends are literally "snowed" in, today in the south was a cold, cloudy ordinary winter day. I had errands to run in town so called my daughter and decided to meet her and Darbee Rae at Darbee's favorite place to eat.... want to guess--- yes McDonald's. What we do for our grandchildren, right?,
When I arrived they were already there and Darbee was having fun in the play area. She ran up to give me a hug, and I couldn't believe my eyes. The picture below does not do her justice. She had pink, pink lipstick all around her lips, and caked on her lips. She had on purple eye shadow and was smiling from ear to ear. Yep, she thought she was BEAUTIFUL. I couldn't even get a good kiss. She did not want me to mess up her "make-up ." Little did she know Nana didn't want to kiss her with her lips caked in lipstick. I did get a tight hug and off she went again to play.
I looked at my daughter and said,"What did you mean bringing her to town like that?"  And her reply was that she thought she was so pretty because she had put make-up on herself.   And she wanted Nana to see.  Thank goodness, she ate a chocolate chip cookie and her mouth had to be wiped. Did her lipstick get wiped off....you be the judge. (ha)   Couldn't resist a picture of my princess.
All of you experiencing the winter storm, stay warm and please be safe.
