All Work and No Play

Good evening everyone.  So glad you decided to stop by and share a cup of coffee with me.  Would love to offer you a slice of cake, or maybe a bowl of cobbler, but I have been so busy these last few days.  Poor Mr. P. had subway sandwiches for supper.  Am I a bad wife or what?

I know sooner or later, ( seems like its gonna be a LOT later ) we are going to be blessed with warm , sunny weather being here to STAY.  But not this week here in the south.  Saw very little sun or felt very little warmth from the outdoors.  So I stayed inside and stayed busy in craft room.  When it does get pretty this old gal is gonna be on the go. Looking forward to playing with Darbee Rae, going to the park, having picnics, and just hanging out. And of course doing what us girls do best SHOPPING. But for now I am trying really hard to get ahead for my fall show. Thought I would share with you some of the stitcherys I have been working on.  Love stitching them, but hate to finish them and put them in frames.  But , thanks to the gloomy weather, I have them finished. Ready to go in crates for the fall show. ( Can you see me smile ? )
Love the sayings on them all , but the one with the old doll is my favorite. It's so primitive.
.  All work and no play has made me antsy.  Tomorrow I am out of this house.  Going thrifting, and then to see Darbee Rae .  So many days and no hugs is not good for my soul.  Then we are  grilling out with the family.  Hope all of you are planning something fun to do for the weekend.  Stay safe and please come back and visit soon.

The Old Front Door

Good Monday Evening. Hope Monday has proven to be a good beginning to everyones week.  I have kept pretty busy today myself.  Had to run errands and then to finish up some projects I have had going.  More on those next time.

It feels like winter has returned to us here in the south.  After violent storms on Saturday and Sunday, we woke this morning to quite chilly tempertures.  Mr. P. had already winterized the fireplace and put the wood back out of the rack, but guess what?  We have a fire in the fireplace tonight. AGAIN!  Hopefully tomorrow it is suppose to warm back up and more rain and storms the rest of the week.  Thats okay, we know warm weather is hiding somewhere around a corner.  Come on Spring weather.  And take away the Pollen we are so famous for here in the South.

Now on to the old front door.  How many times during the course of a week do we enter and exit our doors? We take it for granted and never give much thought to the door itself. I guess with age, I become more sentimental every day.  Some 30 yrs ago when we built our house, I was fortunate enough to acquire the old front door to the old homeplace of my parents that stood on the property that is now our home.  The old home was given away and torn down many moons ago.  However the man who tore the house down was kind enough to dig thru his barn and let me have the old door.
Years later we striped the door down and altho the glass was long broken, I kept the door in the barn. Several years ago, We brought the door upstairs to the guest room.  It once again has a loving home.  No longer can we go in and out of it, but there are so many memories of that door.
Over 50 years ago,(yes I am getting old) my mother brought me thru that door for the first time in my life . She was a young mother and I am sure she had a smile and a look of pride as she introduced me to a big and loving family that awaited inside.  I can remember starring out the glass of the old door on tiptoe waiting for my parents to come in from work. I remember walking thru that door as a young girl to view my grandmother who had passed away.  You know back then, they were brought home for viewing. That was an experience I will never forget.  Yes, like the stitchery inside  the door, what all has that old door seen and heard ?  If we only knew.  Thought I would share pictures of the old door with you. This room is upstairs and only has a small dormer window.  I know it's not prim but we just recently redid it and brightened it up a bit.  Hope you enjoy the pictures.
On my Daddy's old desk where he use to prepare his sermons for church, I have the old Family Bible.  It has been borrowed  more times than I can remember for proof of births, deaths, etc.  You can see by the writing it is very old.  Love that part of our history.
Mr. P. made this cute little cabinet for me from old sewing machine drawers.  The jars are full of candles, old music sheets, old clothespins, Old buttons, etc.
The room needed a punch of color.  Got this Amish Ladies Dress last fall on our trip to Berlin, Ohio.  Found it at a thrift shop.  It's hung from an old chair leg and round.
For a night stand I am using an old school desk.
Sorry this one is dark.  It's a collection of old vintage hats.

Hope you have enjoyed the tour of my guest room.  Next time you go in and out your door, pause a minute and think of the memories your door could tell if it could talk. Old door like old friends are special.
Until next time............

Planning Ahead or Running Behind?

Good evening Friends, Well I got to spend another day at home, and I had forgotten just how much I could accomplish when I stay home and stay busy. Hope you have had a good day whatever you found yourself doing.

Am I ahead or behind?  Well a little of both I believe.  A friend sent me this precious Santa ornament  and she shared with me the pattern before Christmas last year.   I had intended to make some for a tree in my bedroom but time got away and I only got them cut out.  So.... too  late for Christmas 2010.... But ahead for Christmas 2011.  I even did extra to sell at my craft show in September.  For that I am ahead of the game.
I  have also  finished some peppermint sticks I will have for sale in September.  I don't have a selling blog or sell on any other venue , so I work all year on Fall and Christmas for our 3 day show.  So I guess I am planning ahead here also.  Just so nice to finally get something finished.

Tonight we met my Brother -in-law and Sister-in-law and nephew for supper in town.  Holly, Stacy, and Darbee Rae joined us.  Aunt Maudie spoils Darbee and us and always brings gifts.  Caught Darbee Rae entertaining us all
Here she is making faces in PaPa's lap while Maudie and Leonard look on. She is such a clown.
Wow, What a messy table.  But supper sure was good.  Here is Stacy and Holly (Darbee's mom and Dad) and Nephew Justin.   Food and fellowship tonight was a perfect ending to a productive day.  Hope you all have had a fun day and are planning a fun filled weekend.
Stay safe until we talk again.

Why Projects Are Not Getting Done

Good evening everyone. Just thought I would share with you a typical day since the weather has turned pretty.  I just can't seem to say no to Darbee Rae and her Mom. Darbee is only 3 but has been on the go since the day she came home from the hospital.  Yesterday she begged me to go to "Monkey Joes" and watch her play today. Knowing how fast they grow up and that she will be my only grandchild, How can I say NO.
She had a preschool class in the morning and I met them afterward for brunch and then to Monkey Joes we went.  She played until she wore herself out.
I really did enjoy watching her BUT I tried to get a little work done while she played.  I am not doing anything productive these days.  Got a few lines on a stitchery done.
Then we were off to Holly's for Darbee to get a quick nap and get rested up for an afternoon picnic with family and friends. Our son-in-law has access to a beautiful picnic area and lake thru his company.  We all met there and enjoyed a picnic and Darbee played in the water.
Can you tell she was excited and having fun?
Caught this beautiful sunset as we were packing to leave.  I have had a full day of being a Mom,Nana, and friend to all those I love.  I would not trade this day for gold.
Tomorrow will be another day.  I will try again to be productive and work in craft room.. But if the phone rings..... Well we will just wait and see.
Hope all of you have had a fun day spent with someone you love.  Until we talk again.......

A Wonderful Road Trip and Weekend

Good Monday afternoon all my friends.  Hope you are all having a great day, and that Spring has made an appearance at your home. Today is a regular Monday around the homeplace.  Laundry, cooking and cleaning on the top of my list.  But I have to admit , I am moving kind of slow.  Get comfy, as I have lots to talk about and lots of pics.   Hope you enjoy...

Had a wonderful trip with my frined Jane to Biloxi and Gulfport Ms.  In fact we were so busy roaming and having fun, We didn't take time to stop and take pictures.  We were still awake and talking both nights at 2:3o in the morning.  Both mornings we were snacking on Ruffles Queso Potato Chips.   Wow, They were so good.  I had never had them.  They were habit forming, even at 2:30 in the morning.  Jane's good hubby had pic. of the ocean and He was nice enough to share them with me so I could show you how pretty it is down there.  There are no signs of the oil spill, and altho it will never be like it was before hurricane Katrina, things are returning back to normal.  The beaches are beautiful.  So enjoy......
2.JPG
This lighthouse withstood  Katrina when huge mansions were destroyed.  It only substained minimun damange.  Thought that to be amazing as it was right on beach in the path of the storms.
This sunset is my favorite.  So peaceful and serene.  Yes , it was another wonderful trip with a friend.  Another memory to store in my mind.  Thanks Jane for a great time.  Hope there will be many more fun trips in our future...

Then on Saturday, so tired from traveling, I got up and went shopping with Holly and Darbee Rae.  Yes, I had missed seeing Darbee for a few days.  I talked to her on the phone and she said,"Nana, I miss you."  So I had to spend time with her.  We were at the mall and I decided to take her to her favorite store right now.  She is so into dangling earrings.  Guess that will be her trademark.
She is standing in front of Claires.  She bought dangling coffee cup earrings.  She knows I collect coffee cups and her Daddy LOVES coffee.  She was so proud of them.   She also went to Build a Bear and bought Cuddles her bear an Easter outfit.  Holly was so clever when She went to take the pacifier away from Darbee.  They went to Build a Bear and had the pacifier put in the bear when it was stuffed.  Needless to say, Cuddles is very special to Darbee.
We were leaving the mall and Darbee said the sweetest thing.  She told Holly , " We don't ever want to change Nana."  Guess that made all my aches and pains feel a little better.  We had a great time.
We also found to new junk shops to stop and browse.  I got some old spindles, a few Easter decorations, and saw lots of goodies I would have loved to brought home with me.  Will definitely go back.
If I go on and on, you'll have to stay for dinner.(ha) And I have no idea what it would be.  Hope you are enjoying something fun today.  Until next time.

And today it is here.  I wish all of you warm and happy days ahead, and a good farewell to all our winter woes.  New growth and a new beginning for the season ahead.  Have a warm and welcoming afternoon. A Road Trip and a Friend

What more could a girl ask for?  For more years than I want to say,(yep, would make me feel too old) several of my good friends and myself have found the time to slip away for a few days of fun and relaxation on a much needed road trip.  We have done this several times a year.

This time only one friend and myself are going on this venture. We are leaving for the Gulf Coast. It's about a 5 1/2 drive for us. We will talk about our families, get caught up on all the gossip, laugh together, share in each others problems, snack, ( yep we carry enough junk for an army) and I will work on stitchery or some small craft project as we travel down the road.  Checked the weather, it's suppose to be great.  Temps. in the hight 70's.  Can't wait. Want to join us?
My bag is packed and I just have to cook Mr. P some food for while I am gone.  He is such a good hubby to send me off with a big " I love you and Be Careful "  I love you Mr. P. for making my life so happy and allowing me to enjoy the things I do.

Hope all of you have a good week, and I will be back to all my visiting with you guys soon.

A Blogger in the Making

Good evening everyone.  I had a very good day today after a rough, uncertain weekend. Thankfully all bad things eventually come to and end,, or either disappear for a time.

Mr. P. had an evening meeting so I spent the afternoon with Holly and Darbee.  We visited Mother in the nursing home, went for lunch, and then back to play with Darbee at their home.  There is never a dull moment with Darbee Rae.

She is going to be just like Holly about taking pictures and the love of a camera.  She should, she has had one in her face ever since the day she was born.  She's been wanting her own camera, so instead of getting a kid one, Holly gives her the old one she has.  By the way it's like the camera I use everyday.  Let me remind you Darbee is only 3 years old.  But she does really well taking pictures already.

I caught her this afternoon taking pictures of her baby , her doll furniture, and numerous things around their house.   She starts hollering  smile.....smile.....smile..... and I looked up and this is what I saw.
There were kids walking down the sidewalk from school and she was snapping away.  Was even wanting to get pictures of the cars going by.  Yep, she will be a blogger one day.  She tells me all the time," Nana, on my blog........ Guess it goes to reason; "Like Mother Like Daughter"

Had a wonderful day spending it with my Girls.  Hope you have had a Merry Monday also.  Until next time.....

If You Want To Make God Laugh.........

"If want to make God laugh tell him the plans YOU made for the day. "

Oh so true.  Mr. P. and I had our day all planned out when we went to bed last night.  We were in store for a beautiful Saturday, temps. reaching in the high 70's.  Up around 8 , coffee and a biscuit, and out the door for some much needed yard work. He was going to mow the grass (yep, that time already here in the south)
get some painting done on the shop, and then get creative inside the shop.

An early morning phone call changed our plans.  His mama was really sick and had to go to the ER.  Do I need to say more?  That turned out to be an all day ordeal, and late tonight they sent her back home, and we still have no diagnosis. They ruled out a lot of things that it wasn't, and that was good, but have no answers as to what her problems are. Luckily by night she was somewhat better.  It is really sad as we watch our parents age and have medical problems.

So today the plans we made did not get completed, but will be here for us when the time is right. More important things were taken care of.  A really good friend of mine has a saying that I am trying really hard to live by.  "Live in the Day".   Every  day that I grow older, I find this to be so true.  Living one day at a time, sometime is so hard to do.

The day ended with Mr.P's Mom at home where she so wanted to be, and improving a little.  For this we are so thankful
Hope you all have a fun and safe weekend.

I'm Loving Anything Burlap

Burlap is everywhere.  You see pillows made from it, table runners , wreaths, and even eggs made with burlap.  I have been on the search for some original seed ,feed, or bean burlap bags so that I could jump on the wagon and craft with the ever so popular burlap. Living where we do, I could not find any bags anywhere.

Now let me introduce to Holly, my only child.  She is famous as being a SHOPACHOLIC. Yes, I'm for real. She gets up in the morning, gets dressed and out the door her and my 3 yr. old granddaughter go. On the prowl...... shopping.  They go to bed at night planning where they will go the next day.  All you have to do is tell her what you are looking for.......usually she finds it.

And so the story goes with my burlap bags.   Last Saturday the phone rang, and she said,"You will never guess what I found for you. Burlap bags, all you want"  Did you hear me squeal??? She had roamed into our neighboring state of ALA. and found me bags.  Lots of bags. I was so excited.  And of course very cheap.

This is what the back of my SUV looked like when I picked them up. Some still had beans in them. Are you jealous?
Love the ones with the green stripe down the middle.  I can just see a prim table runner made out of this one.
And the ones with the writing on them are great also.  My mind is just wandering to all the neat projects I can create with these bags.
Some of them even had pictures on them.
So there you have a few of the many burlap bags I have to create with in the future.  Once again, Holly and her expertise for shopping, found me what I was looking for.  Guess I will create something from "burlap" for her when the  machine starts humming away. Thanks Holly for finding me treasures.  I love you.
Hope all of you find a special treasure on your outings this weekend.  Have fun and stay safe.

A Rainy Day In Georgia and Comfort Food

Good evening everyone. Today has been a very dark and rainy day. Hopefully the rain will turn things green and help to bring Spring  soon.  I know all of us are ready for some sunshine and warm days.

Let me tell you even before you look at my pictures, I am no professional and have a "primitive camera", but here is a picture out my sunroom window around lunch time today.  So dark, and rainy.
I personally love days like this.  A good book, a primitive magazine, and a few stitcheries to work on, and it makes for a perfect day to hibernate; ALMOST...But I needed some comfort food.
This is an old recipe for peanut butter squares. It takes ingredients you normally have on hand and is simple to make.. Thought I would share the recipe with you.

Chewy Peanut Butter Squares

2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1/4 cup margarine (softened)
1 cup peanut butter ( creamy or crunchy)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups self rising flour
Beat together sugar, eggs, and margarine. Add peanut butter and vanilla. Stir in flour until mixture is smooth.
The batter will be stiff.
Pour into a greased 9"x13" baking dish. Bake at 300  degreesfor 45 minutes or until set and golden brown.
Cool and cut into squares.

Hope you enjoy the recipe.  Just in case it's too late ,or you are too tired to make them tonight and would still like to try them, I fixed you a plate and a cold glass of milk.  Come and join me and we will chat for awhile.

Hope you all have had a wonderful Wednesday.  Until we visit again.......

Lunch with Friends

Let's become little old ladies together- we'll stay up late looking at old pictures, telling "remember when" stories, and laughing till our sides ache.
Let's become eccentric together- the kind of old ladies who take long walks, wear silly hats, and get away with acting outrageous in public places.
And if anybody should ask how long we've been friends, we'll say, "Oh, forever - since before you were even born!"
Let's become little old ladies together- because a friendship that's as special as ours can only grow better through the years

Thought this saying was a good summary of the great day I spent with frineds.  My plans for today was to stay home and spend the day in my craft room working on my prim projects.  But a late night phone call.... a friend wanting to go for lunch and ..... Plans are made to be broken, right?  FOOD and FRIENDS.... what more could a girl want?  We decided to go to the Japanese Resturant in town.
We  had our favorite waiter, who does a great presentation.  We ate, talked and then talked some more.  We were the last customers to leave and they were already closed in preparations for  the evening meal. Friends are wonderful and make life so much more fun.  I am blessed to have friends who accept me for who and what I am.
Sitting are Beverly, Jane, and granddaughter Darbee Rae. My daughter Holly and Darbee Rae's Mom is standing.
I hate to have my picture made, but  I am standing in this photo.
Thanks to all of you for a fun day.
Hope you all have someone you can truthfully say is a "True Friend".  They are priceless.

Primitive Magnets

Good evening to all.  Today has been one of those days. I worked and stayed busy all day and tonight can't see anything at all that I accomplished.  Stayed busy  doing routine things that had to get done, but nothing fun or exciting.
Holly called early and invited her Daddy and me for supper. Gave me something to look forward to.  We enjoyed a delicious supper with a special cube steak and gravy dish she prepared in the crock pot, homemade bread, mac and cheese, green beans, and a home made cake.  YUM!!  Making you guys hungrey?  Thanks Holly and Darbee.  Enjoyed our evening.
Thought I would share with you a few pictures of the primitive magnets I managed to get done a while ago.
Here are a few of the supplies needed to do the project. Sorry I had already used up the magnets before I thought to take a picture, so the package is empty.

You need the clear glass flat marbles from the Dollar tree, Modpodge, pictures out of old magazines, card stock, magnets, and hot glue gun. Lay the marble on picture, cut out, using modpodge glue to marble.  Let dry completely, I waited overnight.  Then cut out a backing from card stock paper and modpodge to back.  This step you do not have  to do, if you don't mind the  magazine page showing.  I then lightly sanded the edges to smooth out when the backing was dry.  Add  magnet with hot glue gun,,, and you have a prim magnet

I decided to diplay mine on a piece of tin when packaging  so they would not get lost in the bags.

This are quick and easy and a great prim gift to share with friends.
Hope all of you have had a great Monday and have a safe and fun week ahead.

Soggy Saturday

Good Morning everyone. Today outside my window skies are heavy with rain, and inside the homplace there is a chill in the air. Just debating whether we need a small fire or to just get up and get busy to warm myself. A fire sounds like more fun, huh.
This has been one of those weeks that found me on the go more than being home, so I have no finished projects to share with you. Guess that is a good thing since my camera batteries went dead and I have no replacements here at home.  Guess a trip to town is needed.
Have enjoyed stopping by your blogs and seeing all the cute items you have been creating. You are a bunch of smart creative ladies.  I enjoy visiting with you all.
Hope you all have a great weekend and I will try to be back next week with pictures.
