About Me

My photo
I have been married to my childhood sweetheart for 42 wonderful years. I have been blessed with one daughter who is grown and gone! She and her hubby have blessed us with a precious grandchild, Darbee Rae. She is eight years old and the sunshine in our days. I have always been a stay at home maid, cook, doctor, babysitter, taxi, wife, mother, and grandmother. I enjoy crafting. My interests include primitives, vintage and colonial styles. I love decorating my home. I enjoy traveling with my hubby and friends, reading, and trying different recipes. I am a Christian and enjoy activities within my church. I hope you enjoy reading about my daily adventures in crafting, shopping, and enjoying life thru the eyes of my darling grand daughter.

Remodeling during the Holidays??? Only at the Home Place

Good evening friends.  Things have been rather busy here at the home place.  As you know Mr. P. works really hard at his job and right now is working 6 days a week and 5 of those days 10 hour shifts.  During the early Spring and Summer all his free time is spent in the shop getting ready for the 3 day show we do in September.  So,,, during the fall and winter after the show is done we try and get in all the home improvements we can.  This year however work has slowed down that process greatly.  Don't get me wrong we are so thankful for his job.  We could not survive without it and are so blessed he has a job locally and does not have to travel.

With all that said,,,, we ordered new counter tops for the first stage of our kitchen remodel.  They were scheduled to be installed before Thanksgiving.  Well,,, that didn't happen and were here the day after Thanksgiving.  Well you know what a big shopping day that is.  Never the less,,, we now have new counter tops and I love my cast iron Kohler deep sink.

But,, we began stripping wallpaper {see behind sink}  and man what a mess.  We had 2 layers of paper and glue.  What were we thinking back in the day.  So now my talented hubby is doing this.

Yes, I am going to have a bead board backsplash.  You can also see the new counter tops here.  I am so proud of them.  BUT,,, remember it is the holidays AND we are having our first get together tomorrow night,  Yes,, you heard right.  Moldings still have to go up and it has to be painted.  Do I work well under pressure?????   No way,  I need Xanax already. As I type the fridge is out in the middle of the floor, island is moved,,, and the eat in part of the kitchen is a disaster. Will we get it done before supper tomorrow night?     I will definitely let you know.  If not,,,,, so be it.  At least this party is family.  They SHOULD understand.

I told you in my last two post we were making changes.  Well we have managed to complete two major ones on our wish list.  You have visited my sun room many times.  It has always been a room we rarely used, but when we had central air and heat installed this summer, we had it put in that room as well making it much more comfortable in ALL seasons.  So you know how we lay in the bed and dream up ideas when we can't sleep?  Well I think I had a good idea in the early morning hours.  We turned the sun room, from this...

into this...

Finally, even though it is small, I have a dining room.  I am so loving it and will show more when you visit back with me for my humble Christmas tour.

We also had old worn dark green carpet in our bedroom.  I couldn't find a good picture to jog your memory, however it is gone and we have new flooring in there.  I absolutely love not having that old carpet.

Yes, that is Santa's long johns waiting for him to jump in at bed time.  Hmmmm, wonder if they would fit Mr.P.?  He has to be worn out after all this work.

I did manage to get a little food prepared for tomorrow night already.  Of course I had a good helper.

That is about it for tonight folks.  So thankful sweet Kathy has cooked supper for us, so we are taking a break and going to eat supper with family.  Hope you have all had a wonderful weekend. And have a blessed week ahead.

Until next time.

  10. The new countertops and sink look gorgeous. It's amazing that you guys were able to pull it all off despite the hectic days of thanksgiving shopping sprees. Hahaha! Anyway, I hope you reached the deadline with the painting job. Thank you so much for sharing that! All the best!
