A Flip that became a Flop

Okay,,,, let's be honest here.  Please tell me I am not the only one guilty of such a thing.  Do you ever lay in bed when sleep doesn't come and rearrange your whole house room by room?  In your dreams that is?   I have done this more times than I would like to admit, just ask Mr. P. Poor fellow has helped me rearrange more than a popular moving company.  Most of the time,, after several attempts things seem to work out.  BUT,,, as you know there has to be a time when what we vision in our mind just don't work in reality. And that is where we are right now.

Remember in my last post, Mr. P. was getting rid of my piano.  Well,, I had such big ideas for the area where the piano had called home for too many years.  As soon as all the parts were gone, cleaning had been done, the floor shined, I began to play out the vision I had for the area.  And then in steps REALITY.   It was not working.  Okay Angela, you are tired,,,, walk away until the next day, and so I did.   Still  not working.

I had so hoped to have a comfy chair, table, and to make this space into a reading nook.  A place of my own where I could read my daily devotional, my wonderful Amish books, and just be ME.  Nope, as of now that is not going to happen.  Nothing I tried seem to turn out as I had it pictured in my mind.  So .... as of now, this is what I have done. The little chair on the wall will not be staying however, I had a nail there and until I am completely happy with the area, I will not put anything on that wall.

I still have a vision and I will not be defeated.  May not turn out the way I had planned in the beginning, but there is hope of a new old piece of furniture to go there.  I just so need to be able to expand my walls. {smile}  Little did I know that getting rid of such a big piece of furniture{piano} could cause so much trouble.

So what does this beautiful Saturday morning find all of you doing?  I haven't shared a picture of our new deck with you ,  Here is a sneak peak through the new slider doors.

Thought you might like to see our "huge" plant.  This is what we call a "pregnant onion".  I really don't know the real name of it.  A couple of friends gave it to us over 30 years ago as a small plant to sit on our pool deck.  And look at it now.  It weighs a ton!!

And this is where you will find me this morning.  Yes, enjoying the beautiful cool breeze and coffee with Mr. P.  Hope you are spending the day with  someone you love.

Stay tuned,,,, I will be back with hopefully a happy ending to my flip that has become a flop in a few days.

Until then......

Saying Goodbye Can Be Quite Emotional

Hello friends.  I know it has been a while ,,, again,,,, but life here at the home place has been rather busy and shows no signs of slowing down.  Not a bad thing, just so much we are trying to get done.  Hope you are all experiencing good Spring weather and are safe from storms and so much rain!!  We had our share of rain for weeks on end, but now the grass could use a good watering.

April ended on a very happy note.  Mr. P. got a week off from work for vacation.  He surely deserved it as he has been so busy working on things around the house.  But will share all that later.  Today I have something more important to share with you.

I started taking piano lessons when I was in 4th grade at school.  It was fun as I got out of class for 30 minutes once a week.   I practiced on an old tall upright piano  we had at home for years.  Then on my 11th birthday my parents surprised me with a brand new piano.   I continued with lessons with a private piano teacher through middle school.  I loved playing the piano and began playing in church once a month as our church where Daddy pastored had Young People's Day once a month.  And guess who lead in the singing.  Yes, Mr. P. was just a young fellow too but he lead in the singing.  .  Little did I know that I would one day play for the church congregation on a regular basic.

Well after I began having so much trouble with my kidneys over a year ago, I gave up my position as I was not able to attend church regularly, and Mr. P. gave up his position also.  I looked for a picture of my piano to share with you but could only find the song book that I had posted about a good while back.  If you were not following me then, and choose to read about this book you can find it here.

This is the book I learned to play the church songs from and most our churches still use today.  Yes, it was rather "used" and I finally had to start using a new Hymnal. Just behind the door there is where the piano has sat for many years.  Holly took lessons on this piano, and I was so hoping Darbee Rae would show an interest, however she doesn't seem to care about learning to play.

Since I know longer have a need for the piano, we tried to give it to someone, anyone who might like to play it and get enjoyment out of it.  But after months we had no luck.  It too is heavy and takes up quite a bit of space and we could not find anyone . Because of it's weight we could not take it to good will and donate it, and the best we could do, it was making big indentions to our wood flooring in the great room.   So today,,,, this is what Mr. P. is doing.

Yes, a first for him also.  He is disassembling the piano right in the great room and taking it out a few pieces at a time.  As he goes out with each arm full, out goes so many memories.  Years of practicing when I was small, singing to my dolls, and playing church in the summer.  Singing cute little songs with Holly when she was a tot, and later with Darbee Rae.  She just loved singing Christmas tunes while I played.  All the Saturday nights when the song leader at church would call with his list of songs for Sunday morning and off to the piano I would go to make sure I could play the songs and do a quick practice. God took him away from us years ago and Mr. P. stepped in until we gave up our positions. There were many happy times as I practiced for weddings, homecomings, and fun times, but sad times as well when I had to practice for a funeral especially of a friend or loved one,  Yes, today has been a roller coaster ride for my emotions. But at this point in our life we had to let go.

Tonight as I prepare for bed, I will be going to bed in a home that no longer houses a piano.  The first time in the almost 60 years of my life, I will not live in a house where there is a piano present. Life goes on, times change , and we accept life as it is, and continue on thankful for the memories.

I will share with you later, what I put in that empty spot that has been full of happy sounds for the past 36 years. Thank you for stopping by and listening to me tell the story of our piano.  Hope I haven't bored you too much.  Will be back soon and share our vacation and what's happening around the home place.

Happy Mother's Day to all you Mom's out there and to all of you Ladies.  Hope your day will be special and blessed.

Until next time.
