About Me

My photo
I have been married to my childhood sweetheart for 42 wonderful years. I have been blessed with one daughter who is grown and gone! She and her hubby have blessed us with a precious grandchild, Darbee Rae. She is eight years old and the sunshine in our days. I have always been a stay at home maid, cook, doctor, babysitter, taxi, wife, mother, and grandmother. I enjoy crafting. My interests include primitives, vintage and colonial styles. I love decorating my home. I enjoy traveling with my hubby and friends, reading, and trying different recipes. I am a Christian and enjoy activities within my church. I hope you enjoy reading about my daily adventures in crafting, shopping, and enjoying life thru the eyes of my darling grand daughter.

Sometimes there are Treasures and Sometimes there are None

Good evening all my blogging friends. Sorry I have not posted in a few day, but had a very busy weekend planned. Was going to wait  until this afternoon to post all the pictures from our outings. This is a long post so grab a soda or a cup of coffee and hope you enjoy my weekend.

Friday started out early.  Holly, Darbee Rae and myself decided to check out a few yard sales that are beginning to pop up since the weather has turned so pretty. Normally there are not good ones in our area but decided to give it a try.  The girls picked me up EARLY for me and already Darbee Rae was so excited. This is a picture of later in the day.  She scored big time with Barbie's and accessories.

She hung tight to her purse.  She had "her" money and paid for her purchases.

Don't you just love this pitcher?  Just had to have it. Loved the sandstone color and beige accents. Found this baby at a yard sale way down on our list.   But you know us girls and when we don't follow our heart, we have to pay.  At the very first sale there was a set  of  Country Craft dinnerware by Churchill that I fell in love with. It had place settings for 8.  Talked myself out of getting them by asking myself, "Where would I put them, Could I get rid of a set to replace them with these?"  Yes, Mr..P. I did think it thru and walked away.   BUT when I found this pitcher, those dishes started calling for us to come back.  That we did and they were still there just for me.  They go so well with my pitcher..
I so love the old worn look of the dishes.  They are glazed with beige and  brown smudgey (is that a word?) places all over each piece.  Can't wait to set a farmhouse table setting with these.  The possibilities are endless. Yep, they are washed and already waiting to be used in my cabinets.

Also waiting for me was an old feather filled pillow.  The ticking doesn't show as old and yellowed as it really is.  The lady at the sale said she was embarrassed to put it out to sell.  I was thrilled,,, a treasure.
Yards and yards of ticking for $1.00  Will definitely use this getting ready for my fall show.
This find was right up there with my dishes.  I was so excited.  These are so old, darkened by time.  Will not use these for crafts, but will treasure these.
We were so impressed with the lifestyle of the Amish on our trip to Berlin, Ohio back in September.  Found this coffee table book for Mr. P.  Thought he would enjoy reading it.  Great steal for 75 cents. Also got some old car tags for Mr. P ., several plants to sit around and a few little items.  Tickled and tired, we went for lunch at Holly's favorite mexican resturant and then home to rest.

Saturday Mr. P. and myself planned a day road trip to go to a huge craft show.  The alarm rang out too early for a Saturday morning but anxious to be on our way, we slowly dressed to face our journey.
First we had to take our Saturn VUE to breakfast.  After filling her tank with very expensive gas, we grabbed a biscuit and our dose of caffine and we were on our way for our 2 1/2 drive. I had my bag of sewing up front with me as well as the new issure of Romantic Homes Mag. and was set for the ride .  Do you take something to work on when traveling?

Finally  we reached our destination. The field where you parked was packed,,,, good sign. There were over 200 vendors and immediately we began our search for the perfect treasures. My camera snuggled in my bag so I could share with you our great finds.
There was really great things there.  Most of it was handmade, but about half way thru, We both became worried.  There was no folk art (as advertised), no primitive booths, no antiques or architectual items, no vintage items, nothing that we were interested in. So as for pictures of our purchases, there are none.  Mr. P. downed his homemade strawberry ice cream in a huge waffle cone too fast to pose, and I guzzled down my advertised "fresh squeezed lemonade" out of a bottle, so fast I didn't think of the camera. So as much fun as Friday was here close to home, Saturday was just as disappointing.

Was the day a total waste?  Well, no.  The Saturn VUE must have enjoyed its full tank for breakfast because we had to give her more to drink before we started home. I got several items stitched while traveling and Mr. P. and I enjoyed each others company.  We had a great supper buffet at a casino on our way home, and we enjoyed our ride making plans, talking about the "good ole days" and spending time together.

Arriving home after a 350 mile round trip and having No purchases to unload it was a bit depressing.  But sometimes you find a treasure and sometime you don't.  Hope all of you found a treasure of your own this weekend.  Whether it be an item you will cherish or a memory that you will carry a lifeitime.   Unitl next time.

  1. I enjoyed Friday just as much as you did. Although I didn't fine anything much for myself, I was just as excited about Darbee's treasures! We must do it again very soon. I love you!

  2. Glad you found some things at the yardsales. I would have been upset about the craft show! Gas is way too high now to be doing that. It's going to hit 4.00 here any day. We are higher than the national average right now. Enjoy your week.

  3. Love that sweet baby doll..she is so precious! I love how she carrys her purse and pays for her own little treasures! lol Ohhhhh girl I so love those dishes!!!!! I love road trips with Bill...even if we are just going to town...I love being with him and we talk nonstop! lol Hope you have a great week sweetie....Picket

  4. Oh, my! I am loving that pitcher! I have a weakness for pitchers! And bowls. And pull toys. And jadeite. And too many other things to mention. Get the picture? Now you know why I have to purge every spring!
Darby looks so cute with blue frosting on her face!

  5. LOVE those dishes, too!
THANK YOU for encouraging me...have a great week1

  6. Thanks for coming by. New friends are always a pleasure. I love that picher and your grandaughter is a doll!
    Have a nice week.

  7. I do love the pitcher and dishes! Even though you didn't come home with car full it does sound like you had a great time!

  8. So glad you stopped by! Looove the dishes and pitcher! Your grand daughter is adorable!
Yes, it was Bell Buckle TN. I live in Murfreesboro which is about 40 min from there.
We left late and spent so much time with the letters, we didn't get anywhere else since it was our first stop. Will have to go back soon.

  9. Hey sweetie...our storms came thru and left in a matter of minutes...those clouds were rolling and heavy winds and rain...Oldest Burly called in the middle of it and he was clear across town and trying to make it home...he said it was bad there and was checking on us...I called and checked on my parents...there's went thru fast also...Baby girl and her family came over here until it passed...I cooked a pot of chicken and dumplings and cornbread for supper...do you think maybe the storm didn't bring them over after all...maybe it was the smell of home cooking seeing as how Baby girl doesn't cook! lol lol Have a safe night yourself sweetie...Picket

  10. You did very well with your finds! What are you planning to do with the feather pillow? I have some old ones in a storage closet. Would love some suggestions. Thanks for stopping by May Days. See you again soon.

  11. I love yard sales but seldom take the time to go. We are out of town most weekends but I think you have inspired me to try it this weekend since we should be home. And yes!!! I do take a bag of stuff to do when traveling. Wonder why that is? I could not imagine "sweet hunter" bringing something to do with his hands if I were doing the driving!!! ha!
